The day begins with picking you up from your hotel and meeting with your tour guide.
Depart from Addis to the southwest to Melka Kunture, regarded as one of the richest and most important Stone Age prehistoric sites in Ethiopia which is located along the upper Awash River. Here at Melka Kunture, human beings have been active for 2 million years early Paleolithic through the Neolithic to the Christian era. An informative site museum displays a good collection of artifacts, including a particularly interesting collection of prehistoric skull replicas modeled after findings throughout Africa. There is also an open-air excavation site and a prehistoric animal buttering site.
After your visit drives on the gravel road to Adadi Mariam church in Ethiopia’s southernmost functional rock-hewn church believed to be carved in the 13th century.
Finally, head to Tiya one of the closest UNESCO world archeological sites in Ethiopia. Here, more than 40 stone stelae, among which the sculpted stelae covered with motives resembling among others like swords, Enset (a kind of Banana tree cultivated in Ethiopia the false banana tree), and other symbols
the meaning of which is unknown. Archaeological excavations show that the site
contains graves as the tradition of erecting megalithic monuments is very ancient in Ethiopia. We finish our day by driving back to Addis Ababa.
